Southend Mencap Music School

I’m delighted to have now secured my next major project which is a documentary for Southend Mencap Music school.

This is set to be an exciting piece of work, charting the progress of a group of music students with special educational needs as they rehearse for their annual Christmas concerts followed by a world record attempt set to take place on Southend pier in spring 2012.  The ‘Musicathon’ will involve Mencap students performing live music, led by the founder of the music school, Cllr David Stanley.  Together, they will be attempting to make history.

Founded in 2000, the Southend Mencap Music School provides  music tuition for children and adults with a learning disability. An average of 50 adults and 20 children attend each week, and a total client base of over 300 clients have enjoyed the Music School over the past decade.

The success of the school is a truly remarkable achievement, and a credit to the kind-spirited individuals and volunteers that dedicate so much personal time and energy into improving lives and providing opportunities for others.  It will be a pleasure to document their work over the coming months.
